Domaine de Canton Sponsors LUPEC Seattle!

Ladies United for the Preservation of Endangered Cocktails, better known as LUPEC, is a nation wide women's cocktail club with chapters in most of the major cities in the USA. The Seattle chapter of LUPEC is only a few months old but already boasts over 35 members.

The first Wednesday of every month, women from all over Seattle gather to enjoy each others company, and taste cocktails at one of a rotation of bars and restaurants around the city. While some women are bartenders and servers, others are food writers, bloggers, and cocktail enthusiasts. What they all share is a passion for classic cocktails.
On March 3rd the members gathered at Rob Roy, where owners Anu Apte and Zane Harris mixed a selection of drinks featuring Domaine de Canton for the ladies to try. These included the Canton Negroni, the Ginger Persuasian, To LUPEC With Love, and the Canton Swizzle. And it was with a Domaine de Canton cocktail in hand that the ladies toasted to the LUPEC slogan, "Dismantaling the patriarchy, one drink at a time."

Meet the Dubonnet Collins and the Heart’s Delight Sangria

Two Great Summer Drinks

In addition to its widespread use in general, Domaine de Canton French Ginger Liqueur will be featured in two cocktails at upcoming events this spring and summer, notably during Tales of the Cocktail, and Heart’s Delight Wine Tasting and Auction.

Tales of the Cocktail (www.talesofthecocktail.com) is an amazing event held each summer in New Orleans. This year, it will be held from July 20-25, and will feature internationally renowned bartenders, chefs, authors, historians, and other luminaries from the cocktail and culinary world. Heart’s Delight (May 6-8, 2010) has quickly become one of the jewels of the Washington, D.C. charitable event circuit, and features some of the world’s top wines, local chefs, as well as cocktails.

Domaine de Canton will be the star of the Signature Cocktail at this year’s Heart’s Delight Wine Tasting and Auction, found in the Heart’s Delight Sangria:

Heart’s Delight Sangria

½ oz fresh lemon juice
½ oz fresh orange juice
1&1/2 oz Domaine de Canton French Ginger Liqueur
2 oz dry red wine

Stir well with ice, serve in a Champagne flute, garnish with the fruit of your choice. To make a batch, just multiply above quantities by 10, and place in a punch bowl with a large slab of ice. Enjoy!

Domaine de Canton will also be featured in one of the cocktails of the Spirited Dinner to be held during Tales of the Cocktail at the newly restored Sazerac Restaurant, Roosevelt Hotel, New Orleans. Paired with dark rum and Dubonnet Rouge, it makes a delightful summer cocktail:

Dubonnet Collins

1 oz Appleton’s Estate Reserve 12 Year Old Rum
1 oz Dubonnet Rouge
1 oz Domaine de Canton French Ginger Liqueur
3/4 oz fresh lemon juice
3 dashes Angostura Bitters

Shake well ice, serve on the rocks in a Collins glass, topped with seltzer

The Gold Coast Martini and the Macintoddy

On Wednesday, March 3, Don Q Rum held it's regional "Mix it Up" competition at the Drawing Room in Chicago. One of the finalists, Milan Mijatovic of the Silversmith Hotel, made a cocktail called "The Gold Coast Martini." This was a fantastic example of how Domaine de Canton can be used with many different spirits, including such disparate flavors as rum and absinthe.  For Milan and Domaine de Canton, it was an excellent way to celebrate National Absinthe Day. Shown below is Milan holding The Gold Coast Martini and the recipe.  Cheers!

The Gold Coast Martini

1 oz Don Q Gold Rum
3/4 oz Domaine de Canton
1/4 oz Sirene Absinthe
1/2 oz fresh squeezed orange juice
1/4 oz fresh lime juice

Shake well, strain into chilled cocktail glass, enjoy!

Meanwhile, up in Somerville, Massachusetts, bartender Joe McGuirk of Highland Kitchen has developed an amazing Domaine de Canton cocktail called the Macintoddy:

The Macintoddy

6 oz. spiced cider (see below)
1 1/4 oz. Maker’s Mark bourbon
1/2 teaspoon allspice
3/4 oz. Domaine de Canton ginger liqueur
1 orange slice

To make spiced cider, boil a gallon of apple cider with 2 cinnamon sticks and an orange studded with 10 cloves; reduce to simmer.

For a MacIntoddy, mix 6 oz. of cider with remaining ingredients and serve in a mug with an orange slice.
